METROAIR AQUA is a floor-mounted air-to-water domestic hot water heat pump that uses energy from the ambient air to produce domestic hot water for single-family houses.
The METROAIR AQUA 301 domestic hot water heat pump is rated best-in-class in third-party tests carried out at LCIE Bureau Veritas in Paris. The test results showed an impressive COP of 4.2 at an air temperature of 20°C. This means that for every kW of power used by the heat pump, it generates 4.2 times as much energy in the form of domestic hot water.
METRO THERM's domestic hot water heat pump system consists of an efficient heat pump connected to a well-insulated domestic hot water tank. A fan draws ambient air in past the heat pump’s refrigerant into the heat pump’s evaporator. The air releases some of its energy into the refrigerant, which evaporates even at low temperatures. The refrigerant is run through a compressor, which raises its pressure and hence temperature. The hot refrigerant then circulates in a coil around the tank, where it releases its heat to the domestic water supply and condenses back into liquid form. A valve then reduces the pressure, and the refrigerant returns to the evaporator, where the process begins again.
The domestic hot water heat pump’s tank has a special enamel coating on the inside that protects against rust, limescale and bacteria. The tank is fitted with a measurable and replaceable magnesium anode and is VA-approved. It is insulated with high-performance, pentane-driven polyurethane foam to guarantee low heat loss for many years to come. The cabinet is powder-coated, with a durable, easy-clean, silky matt varnish. The coils are inserted before the tank is enamelled to ensure there are no untreated joints.
Up to 70% of the energy used to heat the family’s domestic hot water comes free of charge, since it is drawn from the ambient air. If warm and humid indoor air, for example from a bathroom or a cellar, is used, not only does this result in higher efficiency, but the air is also dehumidified and the indoor climate is improved.
Indoor air, outdoor air and exhaust air are all potential heat sources for METROAIR AQUA.
